Transmission Characteristics of Ear Canal of Artificial Head

Abstract(in English) The HRTF(Head Related Transfer Function) of an artificial head can be expressed by the product of 3 components, the sound collection effect of a pinna, the transmission characteristics of ear canal and the diffraction coefficient of the artificial head. In this paper, we investigate the second term. The transmission characteristics of ear canal is obtained by the ratio of the sound pressure measured at the eardrum position to that measured at the entrance of the ear canal of the artificial head without a pinna. Also the numerical analysis is conducted based on the 2-spheres model which replaces the head and the torso of a human by two spheres. The measured and the calculated results show that the transmission characteristics of ear canal do not depend on the incident angle of sound.
