Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a microphone array system for automatic gain control to adjust the speech level in teleconferencing systems. The conventional automatic gain control (AGC) adjusts the level of speech picked up by single microphone. However, in a group teleconference, speech levels vary with distances between talkers and microphone. Therefore, even if the conventional AGC adjusts microphone gain for a talker to achieve appropriate level, the gain may be ineffective for the other talkers. The proposed method solves this problem using microphone array. The proposed array estimates speech level of each talker by estimating talker locations. Then, the proposed array appropriately controls the directivity pattern to achieve constant speech levels for all talkers. Experiments show that the proposed method is effective at gain control for multiple talkers.
