Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have developed a system to analyze the semantics of Japanese sentences on the basis of Generative Lexicon (GL) ([2] [3]). This paper describes the rule system and the method of composing sentential interpretations from lexical senses of constituent words. A dictionary is mainly categorized into three: nominals, verbals and operators. Operators function to unite words or give changes to lexical information of open-class content words. The most appropriate sense of a target word is determined by tired rule applications such as (i) the influence of operators' functions and (ii) the type constraints co-occurring words impose on the word. As each individual word is incrementally processed from left to right, a model keeps the interpretation of the word underspecified and changeable until the information of other following words is scanned. The default sense may be overriden by the context.
