Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recent studies have suggested that the hippocampus is involved in the formation of episodic memory. The hippocampus also plays an important role in knowledge acquisition because much semantic knowledge derives from a series of episodes. In human memory, we tend to forget easily high frequent episodes, particularly variable parts of them. This type of forgetting may play a crucial role in formulating semantic memories from episodic mernories. In this paper, we propose a hippocampal model based on physiological knowledge, and show that this forgetting can be realized by already known hippocampal functions.
