Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We examine the change of the way to express information using spike statistics in a cultured neural network. A network of rat cortical neurons is cultured on an electrode array substrate with which we can electrically stimulate the neurons and measure local field potential. When we inject a stimulus on an electrode, the observed spike response of the network is different depending on the stimulus site. We show that it is possible to estimate the stimulus site from the spatial-temporal pattern of the spike statistics as an encoded information. We also show that tetanic stimuli enhance the estimation accuracy, although tetanic stimuli change spatial patterns of the spike statistics.
