Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The thresholds of speed discrimination were measured at five speeds (0.34, 3.4, 17, 34, 170deg/sec) by psychophysical experiments. The ratio of speed and the corresponding threshold was defined as speed discrimination sensitivity (SDS). SDSs to stimuli moving at same speed were connected by a constant-speed curve. Along the axis of spatial frequency (SF), constant-speed curve of SDS was tuned to a certain SF and shifted toward lower SF as the speed increased. Along the temporal frequency (TF) axis all the curves had temporally tuned shapes and most of them, except the one of 0.337deg/sec, overlapped and reached their peaks at a TF of about 10Hz. A conceptive model of speed perception was then proposed based on these properties.
