Abstract(in English) | In this study, we propose a hybrid adaptive multi-input multi-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) system which switches MIMO techniques and modulation levels according to the channel condition in each sub-band. The proposed system has advantages of both the space time block coding (STBC) OFDM system and the space division multiplexing (SDM) OFDM system. When the channel is in poor condition and/or the signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) is small, the proposed system can utilize the advantage of STBC which provides diversity gain. On the other hand, when the channel is in good condition and/or the SNR is large, the proposed system can utilize the advantage of SDM which provides high transmission rate and throughput. To evaluate the proposed system, we compare the throughput performances of the proposed systems with those of the STBC-OFDM systems with adaptive modulation scheme (AMS) and those of the SDM-OFDM systems with AMS. From the comparison, we show that the proposed system can provide higher throughput than the OFDM systems with a single MIMO technique. Furthermore, we show that the proposed system is very effective and more suitable when the hardware size and the number of receiver antennas are limited. |
