Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Band-limited single-carrier signals with various linear modulation formats as weH as OFDM signals are compared in terms of the power amplifier efficiency. Since there is a trade-off between power efficiency and nonlinear distortion, we first develop a measure that only requires the knowledge of the first order statistic of the instantaneous power of the signals to be evaluated. Subsequent analysis and comparison among these signals reveals that the OFDM signal shows worst efficiency as expected, but this efficiency can be significantly alleviated and even approach that of single-carrier signals by using peak power reduction techniques such as clipping and filtering. |
