Experimental Evaluations of Adaptive Modulation and Channel Coding in Forward Link for VSF-OFCDM Broadband Wireless Access

Abstract(in English) This paper experimentally investigates the throughput performance of Variable Spreading Factor-Orthogonal Frequency and Code Division Multiplexing (VSF-OFCDM) with two-dimensional spreading that prioritizes time-domain spreading in the forward link for broadband packet wireless access. The implemented VSF-OFCDM transceiver with 100-MHz bandwidth employs packet data channel with adaptive modulation and channel coding (AMC) as well as associated control channels in the forward and reverse links. Laboratory experimental results elucidate that the average block error rate of 10^<-1> and 10^<-2> of high data rate transmission of 135 Mbps is achieved at the average received signal energy per symbol-to-noise power spectrum density ratio (E_s/N_o)of 8.9 and 11.1 dB, respectively, in a six-path Rayleigh fading channel employing 160AM data modulation, channel coding rate of R=1/2, and 15 code-multiplexing of the spreading factor SF=16. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the throughput of 100 and 200 Mbps is achieved at the average received E_s/N_o of7.4 and 19.0 dB, respectively, when AMC with QPSK and 16QAM modulation is applied.
