Application of Packet Error Model using Two State Markov Chain to Performance Evaluation of TCP over Wireless Links

Abstract(in English) When performing TCP / IP transmission over wireless environment characterized by Rayleigh fading, its throughput performance deteriorates significantly because of the packet loss due to the poor channel condition compared to wired environments. As countermeasures for this problem, an application of ARQ (Automatic Repeat reQuest), FEC (Forward Error Correction) and space diversity technique to lower layers is effective to improve the performance. In this report, to evaluate TCP throughput performance with these anti-fading techniques by using ns which is one of the most popular network simulators, packet error models considering the application of these techniques are generated by using two state Markov chain and the validity of each generated model is demonstrated by comparing the performance based on actual packet error patterns.
