Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Millimeter-wave bands, such as the 60-GHz band, show great promise in the area of broadband and high-speed wireless communications. However, difficulty in producing a frequency-stable millimeter-wave oscillator causes degradation in signal quality and increase in costs. The use of our millimeter-wave self-heterodyne transmission technique is a simple and cost-effective way of solving these problems. However, there is a degradation in receiving sensitivity compared to conventional methods. We report how our newly developed 70-GHz-band transceiver using the millimeter-wave self-heterodyne transmission with a receiving module array can greatly improve the receiving sensitivity without affecting the directions at which the receiver can receive signals. In addition, we describe the effectiveness of this transceiver in avoiding the signal fading inherent to millimeter-wave propagation.
