Radiation Characteristics of an Antenna System with a Dividing Feed Circuit for a Handy Phone in the Talk Position

Abstract(in English) In this report, we propose two types of antenna system for a handy phone with the aim to improve the radiation efficiency in the talk position. The proposed antennas are the chassis frame dipole antenna (CFDA) and the dividing fed directive control antenna (DFDCA) for a clamshell type handy phone. The DFDA is the one wavelength plate dipole composed of conducting frames built in the upper and lower chassis of the clamshell type handy phone. The DFDCA is based on the structure of the CDFA, and is composed of three antenna elements and a dividing feed circuit. The directive control is implemented in the feeding phase difference between the elements. We focus attention on that the radiation in the direction of user's shoulder and head is reduced by the directive control. The radiation characteristics of proposed antennas int he talk and viewer positions are measured by the fabricated models and calculated by using the FDTD method at 2.14 GHz band. As a result, the radiation efficiency of the DFDCA in the talk position is improved to -4.4dB. This improvement caused by the directive control is quantitatively demonstrated by the absorbed power ratio of the individual human body parts. Moreover, high radiation efficiency of the proposed antennas in the viewer position is presented by the measured and calculated results.
