Experimental Evaluation on Transmission Performance of Broadband SDM-COFDM System

Abstract(in English) We previously proposed SDM-COFDM (Space Division Multiple Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing), which increases frequency utilization efficiency without expanding the occupied frequency bandwidth. By using a simple feed-forward ICI (Inter-Channel Interference) canceller that multiplies the received signals by the estimated inverse propagation coefficient matrix, the scheme improves the performance degradation. To confirm the feasibility of the implementing SDM-COFDM, we develop and test a SDM-COFDM prototype. The results confirm that, (1) SDM-COFDM offers up to 90% higher frequency utilization efficiency than SISO (Single-Input Single-Output) -COFDM in a fading environment, (2) When the path correlation is less than 0.4, the degradation in required CNR (Carrier-to-Noise Ratio) is less than 2dB.
