Abstract(in English) | Van der Pol derived the equation which made his name famous to investigate self-excited oscillatory pehenomena. He adventurously approximated the saturation characteristics of a triode vacuum tube by a cubic curve. In this report we present the results of numerical experiments concerning the limit cycles of the equation when the saturation characteristic is gradually changed from a cubic to a quintic curve. This may in future be the cornerstone for discussing the structural stability of this differential equation. |
