Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | We propose a dentate gyrus network model that works as a band-pass filter for perforant path signal. The network model consists of granule cells, basket cells, and mossy cells. When high frequency stimulation (>lOHz) was delivered through the perforant path, the feed-forward and feedback inhibition via basket cells prevented firing of granule cells. However, low frequency stimulation did not prevent firing of granule cells; in other words, signal through the perforant path passed the dentate gyrus network model. On the other hand, there exists another inhibitory pathway from mossy cells in hilar region to granule cells in the dentate gyrus. Responses of the mossy cells to a random input prevented firing of granule cells stochastically in a low frequency range (<1Hz), but did not in a high frequency stimulation (>10 Hz ). As a result, the dentate gyrus network model opens the gate to the perforant path signal in the range of the theta frequency. |
