Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Indoor wireless optical communication systems employing white LED lighting have been proposed. The powerful white LED light will enable high quality of service of communication. The established system, All LEDs are modulated all the same signal. But, the communication speed of typical point-to-point free-space optical communication system is limited by the switching speed of LEDs or the speed of an optical sensor. In this paper, we proposed parallel optical wireless communication system that solves the problem of the limitation of point-to-point free-space optical communication systems. The transmitter is composed of an array of LEDs, each of which is modulated independently. The receiver is composed of a lens and high speed CMOS image sensor. All the pixels in a 2-dimensional image sensor decode transmitted packets in parallel. This system can avoid transmission speed limitation of point-to-point free-space optical communication by sending and receiving signals in parallel. A demo system is made and the result of the experiment shows the throughput is increased as the degree of parallelism is increased.
