Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) An all-optical wavelength converter is one of the key devices for photonic networks. The wavelength converter using semiconductor optical amplifier is a promising candidate, because it has the characteristics of re-shaping waveforms, and integration of other semiconductor components. But its disadvantage is that transmission speed is limited by a gain recovery time of semiconductor optical amplifier. The gain recovery time of semiconductor optical amplifier can be reduced with its length, amplified spontaneous emission, and an assist light. This paper reports the SOA-based wavelength converter monolithically integrated as a Mach-Zhender interferometer with distributed feedback-laser diodes as assist light sources. We demonstrate wavelength conversion at 2.5~40Gbit/s NRZ in cross phase modulation.
