Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Optical code division multiplexing systems which use some kind of fiber Bragg gratings as optical encoders and decoders have been studied for photonic network. With the fiber Bragg gratings come compactness, easy connection to communication fibers and capability for easy implementation of various codewords by changing the device configuration. In general, the fiber Bragg grating, however, is a kind of 'static' device those characteristics are fixed during the production process, and it means that all devices corresponding to all codewords have to be prepared at least at one side of the sender or the receiver. Thus, in this research, variable encoders and decoders which are able to process any codeword by heating gaps between individual fiber Bragg gratings in a super-structure fiber Bragg grating have been studied. In this report, the device structure have been proposed and the experimental results for code selection by a single super-structure fiber Bragg grating have been reported.
