Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We design 4-branch optical waveguides by the novel method called "Ideal Field Method". The proposed 4-branch optical waveguides were designed by adjusting structural parameters of a given new structure so as to obtain the suitable properties. On the contrary, in our method, the refractive index distribution is determined from a wave equation by giving an ideal field distribution to the waveguide. We have successfully applied this method to the designing of Y-branch and three-branch optical waveguides. In this paper, we apply this "Ideal Field Method" to design 4-branch optical waveguides and obtain structures with the equal power division and low loss. We also investigate the functions of each part and tolerance of the obtained unique structure.
