Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To seal the end of hollow fibers for medical uses, a sealing cap is fabricated by fusing a glass ball onto the end of a glass capillary. The cap has a focusing effect and the focal point is located at around 0.2 mm from the cap surface. Thus, the cap is suitable for "contact-mode" applications. The optical properties of the caps are tested with an Er:YAG laser at 2.94 μm wavelength and as a result, the insertion loss is 0.4 dB and the highest transmitted pulse energy is above 500 mJ for the cap made of low-OH silica glass.
