Development of Low Loss Holey Fibers

Abstract(in English) Photonic Crystal Fibers attract our attention because they have a new possibility in optical fiber applications. Since Holey Fibers, a kind of Photonic Crystal Fibers, has a very small bending losses, we intend to apply them to optical indoor cords. For the practical use of Holey Fibers, reducing the transmission loss has been an important issue. In this paper, we describe that we have developed an excellent holey fiber with a low transmission loss of 0.205dB/km in the wavelength of 1.55um, the same as that of standard SMF. And it has a small bending loss of 0.05dB/turn in the diameter of 10mm, which is less than 1/500 of that of standard SMF.
