Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Wavelength conversion may bring cost reduction of network-wide facility cost and management cost, although it is costly. The main reason is that wavelength utilization is achieved by establishing lightpaths on different idle wavelengths on the routed links. In this paper, we try to minimize facility cost of hierarchical lightpath networks, which include wavelength paths and waveband paths with wavelength conversion. We propose allowing wavelength conversion only at grouping multiple wavelength paths into a waveband path and also propose node architecture for realizing it. We formulate cost minimization problem for the hierarchical lightpath networks by integer linear programming, in which all requested traffic demand is accommodated to lightpaths. We show that the proposed wavelength conversion can reduce facility cost compared to a case of non-wavelength conversion case.
