Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Low cost and extremely compact fiber optic amplifiers with low power consumption are required for metro network system and high speed transmission system such as 40Gbps. We have already reported such a compact fiber optic amplifier with an uncooled pumping laser diode and EDF as above mentioned. We have tried to miniaturize the size of a fiber optic amplifier more by highly integrating and miniaturizing optical components and succeeded in developing a much more compact fiber optic amplifier with the size of 72×50×9mm, +10dBm output power, less than 10dB NF and less than 1W power consumption. Every function required for fiber optic amplifiers is also provided such as prevention of optical surge and protection of LD damage in order to assure reliability. We are happy to report the development result in this paper.
