Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper experimentally investigated the optimum beam forming methods for Adaptive Antenna Array-Beam Forming (AAA-BF) transmitter in the forward link using Variable Spreading Factor-Orthogonal Frequency and Code Division Multiplexing (VSF-OFCDM) broadband wireless access based on direction of arrival (DOA) of each path actually estimated in the reverse link. Laboratory experimental results elucidated that when the angle spread among paths was below approximately 12 degrees, the required transmit signal energy per symbol-to-background noise power spectrum density ratio (E_S/N_0) at the average packet error rate (PER) = 10^<-1> was most decreased by using the beam forming method that the main beam was directed toward the DOAs for all paths and that when the angle spread was over approximately 12 degrees, the required E_S/N_0 was most decreased by using the beam forming method that the direction of main beam was directed toward the DOA with maximum received signal power (in case of 8 transmitter antennas). Furthermore, it was clarified that the effect in reduction of the required transmit E_S/N_0 by directing the main beam to the direction of a target user was dominant since the orthogonality among users was maintained in a frequency-selective fading channel in OFCDM with time-domain spreading.
