Overview and Trends of Ultra Wide Band (UWB) Technology

Abstract(in English) This paper presents an overview and recent trends of ultra wide band (UWB) radio technology. UWB technology has been paid much attention as a promising candidate for very high-rate short-range wireless communication network. Since the Federal COmmunication COmmission (FCC) issued a First Report and Order that authorizes the commercial use of the UWB technology in February 2002, research and development (R&D) activities are under way in many wireless industries and research institutes. The UWB is an attractive radio technique for communications, radar and sensors, while it is a controversial technology because mutual interference to the existing wireless communication systems is unavoidable. This paper reviews some modulation technique for UWB communications. Regulation and R&D trends on UWB technology are also introduced.
