Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Optically compensated bend (OCB) mode is promising as the next generation liquid crystal display, because of its fast response and wide viewing angle. This mode requires alignment transition from a splay alignment to a bend alignment before operation. In this study, we clarified that the transition requires the twist alignment with twist angle larger than 90 degrees, and that this angle depends on voltage applied to the LC cell. In addition, we proposed a method of creating a transition nucleus in the cases of using nematic liquid crystals without chiral materials.
