A Planar Loop Antenna with Detour Elements for WLAN Terminal

Abstract(in English) In this report, a small and planar antenna with tilt beam for small mobile terminals of wireless LAN system is proposed. The proposed antenna is a loop antenna composed of two detour elements, a plate reflector, and two feed points. A main beam of the proposed antenna is tilted more than 45 degrees to the horizontal direction, and the beam direction can be inverted by selectively excitation of the two feed points. We also propose a 6-sector configuration composed of the three proposed antennas in a linear or a radial shape arrangement. The planar size of the 6-sector configuration can be reduced by 30% or 60% compared to that of our previous proposed 6-sector configuration using the Open Eng Square Antenna. Moreover, we present the slot structure of the proposed loop antenna, which can be fed by the microstrip line with favorable impedance matching. The radiation characteristics with the vertical polarization and a tilt beam of the slot loop antenna are demonstrated by the measurement and the FDTD calculation.
