Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The National Space Development Agency (NASDA) of Japan has planned to launch the geostationary satellite called Engineering Test Satellite-VIII (ETS-VIII) in 2004. ETS-VIII will conduct orbital experiments on mobile satellite communications aiming at multimedia applications at the S-band frequency. In this paper, the feasibility of reaching a relatively high value of gain at low elevation angle on the whole azimuth plane, by use of an electronically controlled patch array antenna, is discussed. This antenna does not require a phase shifter and the beam is switched by use of a simple "on", "off" feeding method. Precisely here, a 4-element patch array antenna using proximity coupled feeding and stacked dielectric substrates, whose relative permittivities are 3.55 and 2.17, is analyzed and its numerical performances obtained by the Method of Moments are investigated. As a result, it was confirmed that a minimum gain more than 6 dBic and a maximum axial ratio less than 3 dB could be obtained for an elevation angle varying from 38°to 70°over the whole azumuth range.
