Change in the Difference between the Received Levels of Sector Antenna

Abstract(in English) In mobile communication systems, when radio zones are constituted by sector areas, handover is controlled based on the difference between the received level of an existing sector and that of a neighboring sector. However, in the vicinity of a base station (BS) site, the difference in these levels changes rapidly, handover and soft-handover occur frequently, and a significant load is applied to the BS control. This report presents a model for arriving waves observed at a BS in order to clarify the characteristics of the change in the difference of the received levels of a sector antenna in an urban area. We modeled the angle profile expressed by the Laplacian function with a log normal distribution. By doing so, we can express well the characteristics of the average angle, the angle spread, and the difference in the received level. We focus on the effectiveness in estimating the difference in the received level using the maximum wave in the angle profile, and we propose a physical model for the propagation of the maximum wave.
