Laboratory Experiment on OFCDM Broadband Wireless Access in Forward Link

Abstract(in English) This paper presents laboratory experimental results on the packet error rate (PER) and thereby throughput, performance, above 100 Mbps employing OFCDM (Orthogonal Frequency and Code Division Multiplexing) broadband wireless access (96.5 MHz bandwidth, 768 sub-carriers, 1.0 msec frame length, pilot symbol-assisted coherent detection) in the forward link in a multipath fading channel. By utilizing the implemented OFCDM transceiver equipment, the PER performance of OFCDM with the frequency domain spreading and pilot symbol-assisted MMSE combining and that of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) without spreading are compared in a multipath fading channel, where the fading maximum Doppler frequency, f_D, and delay spread, σ, are the parameters. The experimental results elucidate that OFCDM (spreading factor, SF=4, number of multiplexed codes, C_=4) and OFDM achieve the almost same PER performance employing covolutional coding (channel coding rate, R=1/2) and 16QAM (or QPSK) data modulation, in a 6-path Rayleigh fading channel (f_D=20Hz, σ=0.043μsec), and they achieve the average throughput of 120.88 (58.86) Mbps at the average received signal energy per bit-to-background noise power spectrum density ratio (E_b/N_0) of 21 (14) dB.
