Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The title dyes are based on a 2,5-diamino-3,6-dicyanopyrazine chromophoric system. These dyes have been of interest in various applications because of their intense fluorescence in solution and in the solid state. They have been also found to have some crystal polymorphs depending on the substituents on the amino groups. These polymorphs show different color appearance. In order to clarify the electronic states in the crystalline state, crystal and electronic structures were investigated for red and yellow crystals of the alkylbenzyl derivatives and an orange crystal of the phenylbenzyl derivative. The deformation of the chromophoric system was found to be qualitatively correlated with the color appearance of the crystals by molecular orbital calculations and estimation of intermolecular interactions.
