Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We synthesized polymers bearing oligo-aromatic esters as side chains to create unique second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) active polymers on the basis of architecture. The cut-off wavelength (λ_) of these polymers was shorter than the visible region, i.e., λ_=ca. 330~370 nm, which are much shorter than the typical second-order NLO polymers containing such as azobenzene chromophore. Second harmonic generation (SHG) measurements of these polymer films treated by corona poling were carried out by the Maker-fringe method. These polymer films exhibited good transparency in the visible region. The second-order nonlinear optical coefficient, d_<33>, was 2.2~9.8 pm ・V^<-1>.
