Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper introduces system-level design methodologies for LSI designers. First, we explain the history of computer development and the reason why the C language is widely used to describe applications and OSs on computers. Then we discuss the definition and necessity of the system-level design in the area of LSIs and design automation. One of the most emphasized features of the system-level design is to synthesize circuits from behavioral levels. We explain the differences between RTL and behavioral descriptions and the effectiveness of the behavioral synthesis. Finally, several existing system-level languages are introduced briefly.
