Performance of VSF-OFCDM with Two-Dimensional Spreading Prioritizing Time Domain Spreading

Abstract(in English) This paper proposes VSF-OFCDM (Variable Spreading Factor-Orthogonal Frequency and Code Division Multiplexing) with two-dimensional spreading prioritizing time domain spreading and investigates the optimum spreading factor in time and frequency domains considering radio link parameters (data modulation, channel coding rate, R, and spreading factor, SF), and radio link conditions (delay spread, σ, and maximum Doppler frequency, f_D). Computer simulation results show that when QPSK data modulation coupled with R = 1/2 and 3/4 of turbo coding is used, the required average received E_s/N_0 (signal energy per symbol-to-background noise spectrum density ratio) in VSF-OFCDM is reduced by employing frequency domain spreading up to the SF value of 128 for σ< 0.37 μsec. Meanwhile, for 16QAM data modulation with R 1/2 turbo coding, VSF-OFCDM using only time domain spreading achieves the lowest required average received E_s/N_0 in order to decrease the impact of inter-code interference. Thus, it is concluded that the 2-dimensional spreading prioritizing time domain spreading is appropriate as a whole assuming the application of adaptive modulation and channel coding scheme employing multi-level data modulation.
