Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | We have succeeded in demonstrating 8-bit microprocessors using single-flux-quantum (SFQ) logic with superconductive devices. In the SFQ logic, a single flux quantum in a superconducting ring corresponds to an information bit. The SFQ logic circuit is a strong candidate for future LSIs because it enables us to realize logic gates operating over ten times higher and consuming less than 1/1000 power compared with semiconductor devices. Here we have developed the design methodologies to control single flux quanta in pico-second timescale, and designed a prototype chip integrating about 5000 superconductive devices on a 5 mm square area. The prototype chip have operated successfully up to 15.2 GHz clock and consumed 1.6 mW. We have also demonstrated a microprocessor using passive transmission lines toward mounting a memory. The microprocessor, made up of about 6300 devices, has worked correctly up to 17.9 GHz clock with power consumption of 1.9 mW. |
