Abstract(in English) JPEG2000 technique has superior features compared to JPEG technique. However, it is difficult to realize JPEG2000 real-time encode processor. The difficulties are efficient implementation of a DWT (Discreet Wavelet Transform) calculation which consumes enormous computer power and requires a huge memory, and EBCOT (Embedded Block Coding with Optimized Truncation) processing which requires extremely complex control. Furthermore, tile noises occur along tile boundaries when a compression ratio is high. This is because, conventionally, the entire image has to be divided into several tiles because of memory size limitation. We have achieved a real-time encode processor capable of compressing D1-Images at 30frames/s, by developing efficient DWT calculation algorithm for realizing small hardware implementation. This single chip processor is fabricated using 0.25μm five-layer metal CMOS process and the chip size is 10.2mm x 10.4mm. The power consumption is 2.0W at 2.5V.
