Investigation of Error Correction and Detection Architecture for Cable Modem based on DOCSIS1.1

Abstract(in English) We have accomplished area-effective Reed-Solomon Decoder for various communication systems, and applied the Reed-Solomon Decoder to the downstream transmission of DOCSIS, which is adopting the extended Reed-Solomon Code. To avoid erroneous correction, we newly developed double syndrome checking system and time-multiplexing implementation to keep the small area effect of our previous architecture. Though complicated control for data transmission operation is needed regarding upstream transmission, we refined the code generating procedure for the error detection code, especially examined fragment frame operation to realize no memory architecture. And moreover, we unified appropriate circuits to realize size reduction drastically.
