Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Although it is important for us to understand physiological mechanisms underlying pain sensation; there are still many problems remain unsolved. Here, in order to examine the possibility of our hypothesis on the phantom pain which was proposed based on the physiological knowledge concerning somatosensory system and pain sensation, simulations were performed by making use of the neural network model. The model implemented the corticofugal connections and lateral inhibitions at thalamic level. As a result, the boundary of the somatotopic representation was self-organized, and the reorganization of the somatosensory map was realized. These results here could provide all essential cue for understanding the cognitive system of pain.
