Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to clarify jaw movement mechanism, we have been developing an autonomous jaw-movement simulator, JSN with a life-like structure and control mechanism. Present simulator JSN/2B is able to perform an open-close movement and a chewing-like movement. Subsequently, an actual chewing movement is scheduled to be performed by the simulator. To accomplish this, masticatory force has to be controlled accurately by means of a 3-D bite-force sensor. As a preliminary study, we improved a previous 2-D bite-force sensor into a 3-D one, and measured 3-D bite-force applied to the upper second molar during jaw movement controlled under the previous scheme. Experiments verified that the bite-force sensor was excellent in linearity and other specifications, satisfying prerequisites for masticatory force control.
