The cardiomegaly detection system by lung contour extraction

Abstract(in English) Although clear cardiomegaly can be easily detected when interpreting abnormal enlargement of the heart in a chest X ray, change of the size of the slight heart at initial stage is difficult to detect by eyes. Moreover, many investigations have reported the relationship between cardiac disease and heart size. Therefore, the cardiothoracic ratio is useful as an objective parameter for interpreting cardiomegaly on a chest X ray, and the measurement of the cardiothoracic ratio has been performed. In this study, we have presented a new method for measuring the cardiothoracic ratio. This method extracted lung contour based on median line detected by Hough Transform and computed the cardiothoracic ratio based on lung contour.
