Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | In the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), surgeons are recommended to create the tunnel placement in the femur and tibia that provides ACL-graft isometrics during knee motion. The creation of appropriate tunnel placement under arthroscopy, however, highly depends on surgeon's experiences and surgical techniques. In order to eliminate such surgical uncertainty, we developed a real-time intraoperative navigation system, which can help surgeons to look for optimum tunnel placement determined preoperatively. The system consists of two major components: 1) a marker-based motion tracking devise capable of measuring the 3-D position of a pointing devise relative to the femur on a real-time basis; and 2) a stereo-roentgen photogrammetric system, which can determine the 3-D relative position between the femoral markers and the femur, intraoperatively. In order to verify the system's operationality and accuracy, navigation experiments were carried out, employing a saw bone of the femur with a target point. The target was pinpointed successfully and easily by the pointing devise under the system's supervision, validating the efficacy of our navigation system in the ACL reconstruction. |
