The image-processing system for growth rate measurement of the tissue culture pliant in a test tube

Abstract(in English) One of the important evaluation methods for analysis of the growth characteristic in plant tissue culture is to measure the growth rate of a cultivation plant continuously. In order to obtain exact data and to keep the cultivation, it should be required to measure the 3-dimensional morphology of cultivated tissue without the changing the cultivation condition forf arther growth. This report described about the color image processing system based on personal computer for the measurement of the growth rate in plant tissue cultivation research without affecting the growth process. In this report we discussed the image processing procedure using the 2-dimensional color image-processing system developed with video image capture board and CCD camera. We also discussed the problem in optical system including the test tube for tissue culture. The experimental results suggest that there is relatively good correlation between the area of cultivated plant tissue calculated by 2-dimensional color image processing and the weights of the that tissue alone measured by the scale after taking out from the test tube. Therefore, the color image processing system can estimate the growth rate in plant small tissue culture without disturbing the process of continuous culture.
