Abstract(in English) A numerical study of a method to reduce the radiation loss of a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is reported, and the application of the low-loss CPW to electromagnetic-bandgap (EBG) filters for the THz region is described. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method was used for the full-wave analysis of CPWs and filters. It is expected that the radiation loss could be greatly reduced by constructing a CPW on a substrate consisting of a thin GaAs film reinforced with a thick backside insulator with a low dielectric constant. The application of the same substrate structure to a newly devised EBG-based filter built in a CPW was investigated, and the structure was found effective for preserving a high transmission rate in a high-frequency passband.
