Adaptive Transmission Method in MIMO Systems

Abstract(in English) The rapidly increasing number of users and services in mobile communications requires efficient usage of the available frequency band. MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Output) systems are one possible candidate to meet these demands. This paper examines adaptive transmission method for increasing capacity in MIMO systems. The investigated adaptive transmission method has two features. One is that it changes an uncoded transmission method and a transmission method using a space-time block code, beside it changes modulations. The other is that the maximum level of modulation is equal. Then the uncoded transmission method has feature that data transmission speed is fast but data quality is changed by propagation environments. On the other hand, the transmission method using a space-time block code has feature that diversity gain is obtained. First, this paper describes that the investigated adaptive transmission method is effective scheme for increasing capacity in consideration of electric power efficiency for transmission electric power amplifier. Next, we discuss a scheme for changing transmission method by propagation environments.
