Development of Collision Protection Support System by Inter-Vehicle Communications

Abstract(in English) In order to achieve a safe antomotive society, it is necessary to develop an on-board intelligent system which evades the collisions of vehicles under all situations such as the intersection, highways, and the blind corners according to the Inter-Vehicle Communications (IVC). In this paper group, we have developed the collision detection system, and shown the valodity by several experiments with the IVC, installed the personal computer, telecommunications equipment, and DGPS in two vehicles. We have constructed and verified the system, which the vehicle exchanges the location information and the velocity vector by the UDP broadcast between vehicles, and calculates a relative position each other and the speed, and sounds warning for the vehicle with the possibility of the collision.
