Abstract(in English) | The possibility to simplify the procedure of SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) measurement for portable telephones was investigated in this paper. For a rectangle-typed handset portable telephone, the spatial-averaged peak SARs under eight kinds of the specified measurement conditions, i.e., the composition of the cheek position, the tilted position, the handset touching the left-side of the head, the handset touching the right-side of the head, and the extended antenna and retracted antenna, were analyzed by using the FDTD (Finite-Difference Time-Domain) method together with an anatomically based human head model, the SAM (Specific Anthropomorphic Mannequin) model employed in the standard SAR measurement procedure and a flat model. The numerical results showed that the flat model gives an overestimate of 1.5 times (1.8dB) and 1.7 times (2.3dB) in the one-gram and ten-gram averaged spatial peak SARs, respectively, in comparison with those for the anatomically based head model, and the same level and an overestimate of 1.1 times (0.4dB) in the one-gram and ten-gram averaged spatial peak SARs, respectively, with respect to the SAM model. These results suggest that a flat phantom is a feasible choice for significantly simplifying the SAR measurement procedure. With the employment of the flat phantom, the eight measurement conditions may be reduced effectively to only two measurement conditions, i.e., the extended antenna and the retracted antenna. |
