Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | The inter-university satellite network "Space Collaboration System" (SCS) has 150 VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) stations at the domestic institutes of higher education, and it is used as an important infrastructure of distance education network for lecture exchange and research community. In 1999, the SCS transportable earth station was built in order to expand the use to outside the campus. When the transportable earth station runs, technical staff is necessary for managing a transmitter and receiver of satellite communications. So, we have developed a prototype system of supporting operation of the SCS transportable earth station with augmented reality technology, so that one can manage the equipments in cooperation with a Hub station without any technical staff on site. The system gives us information on how to operate the equipments in the whole operation, using a see-through HMD (Head Mounted Display). The camera image is obtained from the user's viewpoint, and an equipment that the user tries to operate is recognized with markers. The automatic voice also identifies the recognized equipment and alert to a mistake. The system improves operability, because of freeing both hands from handling a manual book. It allows us to make smooth operation with responsible display of the operation information and redudce an operation mistake with voice attention. The SCS transportable earth station will be managed even without any technical staff on site. |
