| Abstract(in English) | National Information Center for Educational Resources (NICER) is the national website in which both instructors and learners are able to search necessary information easily. The mechanism to achieve that goal is currently under study. LOM used at NICER was developed exclusively for the comprehensive retrieval of information at NICER, but is compatible with the IEEE standards. The categorization used in NIGER'S system corresponds to that of the Course of Study for elementary and high school education. Therefore information for particular subjects, grades, areas and items can be retrieved readily. Unlike English, the Japanese language uses kanji or Chinese characters to find information, NICER developed a word-search support system for students who may come across kanji that they have not yet learnt to read. For instance, when one types in a word in Japanese, the system would suggest several written forms of the word (both in Chinese characters and in phonetic expression) so that even young students can understand, and search for the necessary information. Simple mistakes in the characters entered can also be automatically corrected. |
