Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a self-monitoring system that supports the acquirement of meta-cognitive skills in the information seeking on the WWW and aims to facilitate novice users acquiring the meta-cognitive skill. Recently, through the spread of the WWW, the internet has been brought into classrooms. But, it is difficult for a novice user to find specific information because of the vast amounts of information and the complex structure on the WWW. As well as other types of problem solving, it has been reported that meta-cognitive skills are important for the information seeking on the WWW. We consider that the novice's performance of seeking the information on the WWW is improved by the acquirement of the meta-cognitive skills. A prototype system proposed in this paper is expected to support self-monitoring by describing users' information seeking processes on the WWW based on a behavior schema.
