Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is said that providing shared atmosphere, in which a participant involved could feel the existence of others, makes a great contribution to progress learning efficiency in Interactive Distance Learning (IDL). We have proposed a ring based method for generating mixed sounds that reflect the distance to speakers for realizing such shared atmosphere. In the ring based method, mixing devices called Mixing Units are logically connected to form a ring over networks, and the each Mixing Unit that takes care of the corresponding participant's voice processes the voice mixing so that the mixed sounds reflect the distance to speakers on the ring. This paper describes the system that realizes the proposed method and its prototype software-based implementation.
